full life

(no subject)

I've been obessessed with Don Hertzfeldt for a while, so the news that a long-awaited DVD compilation will apparently be available for pre-order in May makes my heart sing. My new icon is from "Rejected", which is most likely the cartoon you've seen if you're in any way familiar with his work.

When I was a kid, before my parents got divorced, my dad was a cello teacher/conductor at the New England Music Camp in Maine, and so we'd all go up there for the summer. Those were amazing summers, and one of my favorite things about those summers are the nights when Dad would take me to the local art house theater to see the animation festivals. I have no idea how or why we were interested in animation, but we were, and we loved going to those. I still remember this one cartoon about the end of the world, and this one horrible-looking elderly couple were playing this game of Scrabble while the world was exploding around them, and the husband was frantically trying to create something out of his tiles, which turned out to be 7 Es (which is probably where the idea for Bad Scrabble Hands came from, now that I think about it), and I remember my dad and I laughing about that for around a week or so afterwards...

Dad, if you're reading this, I'm getting you this DVD. And a kick-ass bottle of single malt.
Listen, I want to be honest: I always knew I liked you. A lot. But today, you've grown yourself immeasurably high in my esteem. Number 1, bad scrabble hands is GENIUS. Number 2, your dad was a cello teacher?? DUDE! Cellists rocks :)

I love the icon. It reminds me of the A-HA video for Take On Me.
