Saturday - went shopping, then met up with the woman and caught the 4:10 showing of "The Royal Tenenbaums", which was fantastic. I've been replaying images and scenes from the movie in my head over and over; it's hilarious and even moving, sort of, at the end. Tremendous acting all around, and it should be Oscar-nominated for at least cinematography, production design, Gene Hackman and Gwyneth Paltrow. It also features an Elliot Smith song (from the self-titled record, I think it's "Needle in the Hay") at a very climactic scene in the movie, which was perfect (if a little off-putting).
After the movie, we went to this bar in Brooklyn and ate lots o' fried appetizers and played a few rounds of Boggle. Remember Boggle? Fun stuff.
Sunday - eventually made it over to the UCB theatre to see a friend of ours perform in her improvisation class graduation; hilarity ensued. After that, we all went to the "White Elephant Party", an annual holiday event thrown by some friends of ours in which we all eat super-potent pot brownies and exchange "gifts" - i.e., things we had in our apartment that we no longer want. I scored a "Make your own candy necklace" set, which was pretty awesome, I suppose. The brownies were devestatingly effective, and we were all absorbed in games of PickupStix, Egyptian Ratfuck, Spoons, and this crazy Star Wars Rock-em Sock-em game between Darth Maul and Qui-Jon, which was as loud as it was strange.
