Great night last night. Met up with the woman and headed down to this wierd performance space on Suffolk and Delancey; our friend Alex was doing a reading of a very stripped-down adaptation of Wagner's Ring Cycle. Also starring in this reading were Thomas Jay Ryan and Maria Porter, who both starred in one of my favorite films of all time, "Henry Fool". The play itself was kinda dumb, but the acting was fantastic, and we all had a great time.

After that we (a group of us) wandered around for a bit in the cold until we arrived at Beladonna, where we had dinner and drinks and just cracked up for hours. It was one of those nights where I really didn't care how tired I was, or how I've got so much stuff on my mind, or anything - I just really truly enjoyed myself.

Now, of course, I'm tired as hell.

It's wierd how, over the last 6 months, I've been in alarmingly close contact with a lot of famous people I admire. It's easy enough to do that with people like David Cross and Jeneane Garofalo at the comedy nights at Luna or Stella, but then how do I explain hanging out backstage near Tenacious D, Tim Robbins and various SNL cast members? Or now seeing 2 of the cast members from Henry Fool? And I know there's been more. Goddamn, New York City is the fucking best place in the world.

Kinda hard to imagine Thomas Pynchon (and not, say, Tom Robbins) writing this paragraph, but there it is on p. 99 of "Inherent Vice":…
