Yankees 8, Royals 2

As much as I was hoping to spend last night 4-tracking (the woman had rehearsal), I felt compelled to watch the first Yankee night game of the season on TV. The game was pretty much over after the 2nd inning, so I ended up flipping around after a while. "That's My Bush" just totally sucked, couldn't watch more than 10 seconds at a time.

"Unspirited" is stuck in my head. The high guitar line in the second verse is totally something I would do. The liner notes indicate that Isolation Drills was recorded at Loho Studios, which is where I've spent a few thousand dollars over the last 6 years or so; nothing we did there ever sounded as hi-fi as this record does. The record itself is pretty good - a lot more consistent than Do the Collapse, but still not the sort of breakthrough rock that I'm craving. It's funny - GBV is definitely an alcohol band, and most definitely not a stoner band, and you can just tell from the songwriting and, well, the intent. They're not a band that's interested in transporting you anywhere; and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, it's just not what I need to hear right now.

It's quite a beautiful day outside - easily the nicest day of 2001 so far, even if it was a little chilly when I had a ciggie at 10:30.

Kinda hard to imagine Thomas Pynchon (and not, say, Tom Robbins) writing this paragraph, but there it is on p. 99 of "Inherent Vice":…
