What a game last night. Marcus Thames, on his first major-league pitch (a 97mph fastball from Randy Johnson), goes yard. And then Shane Spencer hits the game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the 8th.

Sitting in the bleacher seats at Yankee Stadium is pretty insane. I can't imagine what it was like when they served beer. There are definitely pros and cons to the bleachers:

  • pro:
  • Great view; home run territory; entertainment galore, like when some poor bastard trudged up into the bleachers wearing a D-Backs hat. Even worse, his buddy was wearing a Mets hat. Look, don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with supporting your team on the road - just don't be an idiot and wear your D-Backs hat in the right-field bleachers at Yankee Stadium. Or your Mets hat when the Mets aren't even playing at the Stadium. Say what you will about the obnoxiousness of Yankee fans, but that's just asking for it.

  • con:
  • No alcohol, no smoking, one bathroom, crazy lines at concession stands, a tendency to miss what's happening on the field because everyone around you is screaming "METS SUCK!!!". Or "Left field SUCKS!!!". And, of course, the asshole right behind you who insists on punctuating every missed Yankee opportunity with a hearty "FUCK!!!", which is only hilarious for the first 20-30 times.

Anyway, now I'm very tired and of course there's nothing to do.

Oh yeah, this is my 700th LJ-post. I'm tempted to reflect on that, but it'll have to wait until I can get my hands on some more coffee.

    • Farewell, LJ

So I guess I'm retiring this blog. Part of me feels like I need to make some sort of eulogy or something; part of me just wants to move on already.…

The first sentence of this post was "Finally, some breathing room," and then as I was in the middle of the second sentence I got handed…

Kinda hard to imagine Thomas Pynchon (and not, say, Tom Robbins) writing this paragraph, but there it is on p. 99 of "Inherent Vice":…
