Both Tom Verducci and Jayson Stark have written very interesting articles about the need for MLB to institute a minimum payroll. Personally, I think it's a great idea - it forces teams to spend money on player development as opposed to pocketing revenue-sharing money. It won't stop clubs from making incredibly stupid deals, but it will force them to attempt to put a winning team on the field, instead of constant payroll slashing and complaining about poor attendance.
