look out

According to this morning's horoscope, I'm gonna be a wiseass in rare form today, and maybe I'll even write some lyrics:

The energy emanating from the configuration the planets are forming is vibrant and dynamic, and for you, this means that today you could be quite the spitfire. You could have a sassy retort or a quick comeback to anything that is said to you. Your mind will be sharp, and you'll be able to make witty remarks easily. Your sense of humor is also likely to be incisive and powerful. If you make a clever observation about something, you might want to record your ideas. Keep a tape recorder or a notebook handy, because you could come up with good material!

Started working on a new song last night - well, it's an old song, but it only really existed on paper, I hadn't ever attempted to work it out. The sampler is still working; I'm moving cautiously in a looping direction. It's better to have learned the songs without 'em, though, in general.

Re-stacked the CD wallets, which was necessary. Most of these CDs contain at least one or two songs that have been floating around in my head for months; I'm considering learning a few of them for the gig; early candidates include "Run of the Mill" or "All Things Must Pass" (George Harrison), "Morning Bell" (combining elements of both the "Kid A" and "Amnesiac" versions), "23 Minutes in Brussels" (Luna), and possibly "Showboat Angel" (TSAC).

PJ Harvey, "Is This Desire?"
George Harrison, "All Things Must Pass" (Disc 1)
Peter Gabriel, "Us"
Nick Drake, "Pink Moon"
Blur, "13"
The Beatles, "Revolver"
The Beatles, "Abbey Road"
Hum, "Downward is Heavenward"
Luna, "Penthouse"
Death Cab for Cutie, "We Have the Facts..."
Sam Prekop, s/t
The Sea and Cake, "Oui"

Yo La Tengo, "I Can Hear the Heart..."
Traffic, "Mr. Fantasy"
Tortoise, "Standards"
Stereolab, "Cobra..." [the brown one]
Radiohead, "Amnesiac"
The Sea and Cake, s/t
Built to Spill, "Perfect From Now On"
The Police, "Zenyatta Mondatta"
The Police, "Regatta de Blanc"
Pete Yorn, "Musicforthemorningafter"
Jethro Tull, "Living in the Past"
The Church, "Gold Afternoon Fix"

"Hot lesbian witches? Think about it, man, that's fucking genius!" - BJM

No work to do, and it's too goddamned cold in here. However I do have some good news; some girl came over to the temp area where I sit and gave all of us $5 debit cards, so now I can ravage the vending machines. Oh yeah.

What is everybody doing this weekend? I'm seeing the woman's play Saturday night and Sunday afternoon; her sister's in town, so there'll most likley be some extensive drinking.

I have some money in my bank account now, but somehow I don't really feel any better; it's already the end of the month, and bills are due soon. Sheesh...

Holy Shit. Those of you in the NYC area who watch NY1 in the morning will appreciate what I am about to say: George Whipple, the crazy-eyebrowed man who gives away free crap every morning at 7:20, has an office on this floor, right across the hall. On the annoying minor celebrity scale, I'd rank him a 9 (10 being the most annoying), but even so, it's still pretty frikkin' cool. Wierd, too; I always wondered what he did for a living. Turns out he works in the legal department for Credit Suisse First Boston.

Oh, and I got this from McSweeney's:

- - - -

"For more than a thousand generations the Jedi were the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. Before she decided she needed to 'find' herself. Before I wasn't good enough. Bitch."

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. And don't I know what that's like."

"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the gala Oh, it's all horseshit. God."

"If you strike me down, I shall become more grateful than you can possibly imagine."

"Remember, the Force will be with you, always. Except when you really need it, when a little encouragement would do you some good, just a little 'Atta boy,' just a little gratitude. But no. Fine."
