What was the first album you ever bought?
There's two parts to this question. Contrary to jdixon's opinion that I bought T'Pau, the first tape I ever bought was, I think, Cyndi Lauper, "True Colors". The first CDs I ever bought were Midnight Oil's "10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1", Genesis' "Selling England By The Pound", and Yes' "Close To The Edge".

What is the first album you can remember listening to?
The first album that I remember listening to and having an earth-shattering epiphany to was U2, "The Unforgettable Fire".

What was the last album you bought?
Dismemberment Plan, "Change"

what was the last CD you listened to?
Juliana Hatfield Three, "Become What You Are"

Approximately 450 CDs.

which one of your albums do you wish you never would have wasted your money on?
Oh, there's so many. R.E.M., "Monster" is pretty bad.

Name an album you secretly love that would ruin your reputation as cool if people knew about it.
Not that this could ever possibly happen, as I'm such an elitist snob, but I'm sure that if word got out that I liked the Spin Doctors' "Pocketful of Kryptonite", I'd get killed.

what album do you listen to most often?
Right now it's a toss-up between the new D-Plan, the new Death Cab, and Oysterhead.

How many concerts have you been to?
Probably 50 or so, a good 15+ being Phish shows.

Which of the above, if any, was your favorite?
Off the top of my head, there are a few that leap to mind: Hum at Irving Plaza, Phish at Madison Square Garden 12/13/98 (when I took E and peaked right at midnight, and then Phish played the most spectacular version of "Loving Cup" you'll ever hear), Phish at Nassau Collisseum 4/2/98, and... uh... my very first concert, which was U2 at Giants Stadium on the second half of their Achtung Baby tour. When they played "Bad", I lost my shit. That was also the first time I had ever smelled marijuana.

Name a fantastic album someone else introduced you to.
My friend John Van turned me on to 3 different Sea and Cake albums, which all just blew my shit away.

jdixon picked me up the special tour copy of the new Death Cab album, featuring a really nice cover of Bjork's "All is Full of Love".

I've bought the woman several albums, most recently being either the new R.E.M. or the O Brother soundtrack.

Name a fantastic album you discovered entirely by accident, on your own.
The Giraffes, "Thirteen Other Dimensions". It's the dude from the Presidents' solo project, and it's really really great.

Name an album that brings back painful memories of adolescence.
There were several albums that tortured me throughout high school - Jane's Addiction, "Ritual".... R.E.M., "Green"... but I think Pink Floyd, "The Wall" would have to take the cake, as I can't listen to it ever again without going insane.

Name an album that was playing when you underwent a major rite of passage.
Jimi Hendrix Experience, "Electric Ladyland" was the soundtrack when I got stoned for the very first time.

Name an album you'd play for someone you wanted to seduce.
Ooh, baby. Probably Massive Attack, "Mezzanine" (if it was gonna be really dirty) or Sam Prekop's solo record (if it was gonna be nice and sweet).

1. Bitching about work! More filing insanity today, except today it's all in Italian. Today is one of those days where I get more tired in spite of drinking coffee.

2. Tonight's plans! Tonight should be awesome: jdixon and I (and some other folks) are going to see Stella at Fez. Stella is a comedy show hosted by three of the guys from MTV's The State (David Wain, Michael Showalter, and Michael "Johnny Bluejeans" Ian Black), and usually features really good comedians (including Janeane Garofalo, members of the UCB, the Sklar brothers, etc.) and some other State folks. Personally I'm hoping for a surprise appearance by Tom Lennon, although you never know with these things. We used to go to Stella all the friggin' time, back in the day... It's always a quality night out on the town, which I think I need, although I don't think I can afford. Whatever.

3. I am a computer gaming nerd! I was eagerly anticipating the new Return to Castle Wolfenstien game, but all the reviews seem to say that the single-player version is pretty weak. And as long as I'm stuck on a 56K modem, I ain't treading the waters of multiplayer. Speaking of gaming, I've been thinking about Baldur's Gate all morning, in spite of my filing insanity. Gotta put it off until after the gig, though.

pet peeves, revisited:

1. people who cut in front of you when you're waiting for a subway, grab the last available seat, and then get out at the next stop.

2. people (often the same people as in #1) who stop moving while on a busy stairwell.

3. internet pop-up ads. DEAR GOD. make them stop, please. banner ads might be annoying, but pop-up ads make me want to kick something.

4. 56K modems, after spending the workday cruising on T1 lines.

5. meaningless filing.
