The gig went much better than I'd anticipated, especially considering that I'd never sung those two new songs; in fact, I thought those two new ones sounded quite good. It was only a 30-minute set, but I only picked 5 or 6 songs to do, which turned out to be a better idea in terms of helping me relax - I got to stetch 'em out a bit. My friend Tomi, who organized this whole thing, played a fantastic set herself - and her brother-in-law took some really fantastic digital photos, which I will hopefully get in e-mail form sometime this week and then put up on my webpage, so y'all can see what a sexy beast I am not.

Every once in a while I remember that George W. Bush is the Leader of the Free World. This paragraph is from a New York Times review about a new soft bio of W:

Examples of Mr. Bush's tortured prose provide a kind of running joke throughout the book: Mr. Bush spoke of Americans trying "to put food on your family"; tariffs and barriers became "bariffs and terriers"; quotas would "vulcanize" rather than "Balkanize" society; to raise living standards, he would "make the pie higher"; doubts about current education policy made him wonder: "Is our children learning?"; and the AIDS crisis moved him to describe Africa as "a nation of incredible disease."
