(no subject)

Ugh. Work has been absolutely brutal today.

Just needed to get that out.

The Steve Reich obsession continues unabated; my copy of Phases arrived last week and I downloaded (on 's rec.) the Sextet/6 Marimbas album last night (as well as Terry Riley's "In C"), and all the while I continue to listen to Music for 18 Musicians pretty much nonstop, including right at this very minute. Kath does not care for it, which is a bummer, but this is why God invented headphones and/or closed doors.

HOF inductions have been announced - Gwynn and Ripken are in, McGwire is out. Bill Simmons wrote a thing recently about how Ripken is possibly the most overrated player of all time. I don't know about that, but I can say this - I was at Ripken's last ever game at Yankee Stadium, an unusually boring affair that lasted well into extra innings (most Yankees/O's games are wild, high-scoring affairs with a brawl thrown in now and again) and Ripken went something like 0 for 8 with 5Ks and didn't even get a ball out of the infield. By the 6th AB the crowd had grown weary of giving him standing Os. Talk about anti-climatic endings. I love me some Tony Gwynn, however, and I find myself wondering who the 13 voters were that didn't think he was Hall-worthy. 8 batting titles? .338 lifetime? Not good enough? Hmm.

So, yeah.
