ipod war

(no subject)

It's that time of year again.  No, not the holidays, or my birthday which is on Saturday - it's the time of year when I get to make my best-of lists.

I didn't really see enough movies this year to make an adequate movie list, and while I read a lot, most of the books I read this year were old.  And until I am somehow able to get my hands on a Wii, which is seemingly impossible these days, my game of the year choices are limited to what I played on my Xbox.  (That said, a lot of amazing games came out on the 360 this year, and I think I played all of them.)  It's the music that is the purpose of this particular post.

I don't necessarily know how this will compare with your average rate of consumption, but according to my records, I acquired 122 albums this calendar year (including 2 or 3 box sets), 58 of which were released in 2007.  This is way more music than I normally deal with, but it also means there's a lot of lists I can make:
  • Top 10 Albums of 2007
  • Top 10 Songs of 2007
  • Top 10 Albums that came out a while ago that I just now got around to owning
  • Top 10 Albums where I think Pitchfork and/or iTunes Recommendations should give me a refund
  • Top 10 Albums that I still haven't actually listened to
etc. etc.

I disagree with people who say that this wasn't a strong year for music - in fact, I think this year was one of the best in recent memory.  Well, I should qualify that - there were probably only 2-3 truly mind-blowing, life-altering albums, but the rest of what came out was still really good.  And there were a TON of great songs.

Anyway - lists are to come, possibly even later today.  I just realized I haven't posted in a while.  Nothing terribly exciting is happening.
