That Pitchfork "Best of the 80s" list was not without its list of grievous omissions and mistakes. That said, it did succeed in getting me to dust off my copy of the first Stone Roses album, which is pretty much perfect. I could do without "Don't Stop" because it sounds much better as "Waterfall", and "Elizabeth My Dear" is completely unnecessary, even at :39 or whatever - why re-write "Scarborough Fair" when your own songs are so good? Whatever. The rest of the album is sweet pop bliss.
