I'm about to get a brand-new computer here, so my morning has been spent uninstalling various little non-work-related doo-dads. At first I was paranoid about what they might find, but then the tech guy I spoke to who was going to hook up my new computer actually, literally said "Well, I don't even know how to install Instant Messenger."

I love The Sea and Cake, and I am so pissed off that they were in NYC last night and I didn't know about it. I would've KILLED to see them. Their new record is REALLY REALLY good and some of the songs would just destroy in a live setting; hopefully they'll be around again soon, or I'll cry like a baby. I spent about 20 minutes just now drooling over the recording studio that John McEntire built, and I made a pledge to myself that regardless of whether I get anywhere in my musical career, I am going to go to Chicago and record there. That would be the greatest. It's sorta not fair to be in a band where your drummer is not only an inventive and kickass drummer but also an inventive and kickass engineer/producer and has his own state-of-the-art studio. I want that.

Kath said that she wanted me to make her a Sea and Cake mix; I think I'll make myself one, too. The problem is that of the 60 songs they've released, I'd want to put about 45 of them on the mix...

I'll be back this afternoon, once my new computer is set up and I've re-installed the various things I need to re-install.

Kinda hard to imagine Thomas Pynchon (and not, say, Tom Robbins) writing this paragraph, but there it is on p. 99 of "Inherent Vice":…
