1. Neither of my lawyers are in the office today, so I forsee a long lunch-time trek over to Times Square, where I'd like to purchase the new Ted Leo/Pharmacists, Portastatic, the most recent SleaterKinney, and perhaps others, if you can think of anything that I oughta listen to.

2. There's been a lot of Yankees/Red Sox banter in my journal recently, which is fine and all, but I feel like I'm excluding my other baseball friends. So let me give a shout out to dlbags, whose Mets are approaching Tigers-level ineptitude and who oughtta cough up his double-or-nothing bet now just to get it out of the way. I got two words for you, Dave - Mo Vaughn. I'm also making a not-so-bold prediction (since every NY baseball writer seems to agree with me) that Steve Phillips will be out of a job by the end of next week. I could make a joke about who blows more, Benitez or Piazza, but I'll refrain.

3. I've been reading "McSweeney's Mammoth Treasury of Thrilling Tales" and it's all been really good stuff thus far. It's nice to see the postmodern/meta kids taking on the pulpy genre stuff, and for the most part succeeding.
