I quoted one of my favorite Onion lines yesterday for something completely different, but it seems relevant to the story below. [EDIT: Got the quote right. Thanks, guys!]

"I know they say you get the government you deserve, but I don't remember kinfe-raping any retarded nuns."

From Yahoo News:

Seeking to build support among black families for its education reform law, the Bush administration paid a prominent black pundit $240,000 to promote the law on his nationally syndicated television show and to urge other black journalists to do the same.

The campaign, part of an effort to promote No Child Left Behind (NCLB), required commentator Armstrong Williams "to regularly comment on NCLB during the course of his broadcasts," and to interview Education Secretary Rod Paige for TV and radio spots that aired during the show in 2004.

Williams said Thursday he understands that critics could find the arrangement unethical, but "I wanted to do it because it's something I believe in."
Williams said Thursday he understands that critics could find the arrangement unethical, but "I wanted to do it because it's something I believe in."

I, too, firmly believe in $250,000... even if NCLB is the BIGGEST CROCK OF SHIT in the history of education reform.
"i believe in something critics could find unethical."

god, i could get away with so much shit if i felt comfortable saying that.
If it's something you believe in, do it for free instead of compromising your journalistic integrity. Am I wrong? Am I wrong??

Okay, then.
that is awful.

and yeah, it was "knife-raping any retarded nuns"!

my boyfriend and i say that to each other about oh, everything.
I'd gut-punch my own mother for $250,000.

Of course, I'd give her some of it. I'm pretty sure she'd understand.
