It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights

Last night I bought The Muppet Show, Season 1 and Kung Fu Hustle. I had previously been suckered by the TimeLife people into buying the Muppets on VHS a couple years ago, which was especially annoying since only after I completed the purchase did the lady on the other end of the phone tell me that they were coming out on DVD in 6 months. However, these DVDs are a completely different beast entirely. Season 1 is a 4-disc set with lots of interesting, lesser-known guest stars (Mummenschanz!!!) and features, among other things, Jim Henson's pitch reel, an utterly fantastic 3-minute bit which was ultimately successful in getting the Muppet Show on the air. Who doesn't love Muppets? The jokes are still corny as ever, but the sheer artistry never, ever gets old. Kath and I hunkered down to watch and couldn't stop smiling. The cover of the DVD is FELT, fercrissakes. Get it.

*gasp!* They skinned Kermit? The guy from the Muppet Movie finally succeeded? Oh, the humanity!
That ain't nearly as bad as what they did to Piggy. Season 2 is covered in bacon.
"Gee, I wish someone was here who could help me count to three!"

::kills muppet, uses every part of the muppet::

"Yeah, the little guy was learning his numbers off the licence plate, and it seemed like a waste to bury it, so I said, "Hey, let's fry it up!"
Re: muppetophagia
Good Lord, they were good. Or maybe The State just seems way funnier because I haven't seen it in 12 years.
Re: muppetophagia
It's probably a little bit of both, but I'd be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt - after all, those guys eventually did give us Wet Hot and Reno 911 and Stella, and frankly, there ain't nothing that endures like 200 dollars worth of puddin'.

And as long as I'm at it, let me now also yell at MTV for not releasing the Sifl & Olly seaons 1 and 2 DVDs for CRYING OUT LOUD. Maybe after the Tenacious D movie resparks Liam Lynch's career, there'll be more of a clamoring for it?
"Hey man... I'm just a plant."

I certainly hope so! But everything comes out on DVD nowadays, even shows no one likes. So a cult classic like S&O is ripe for plucking.
Ahahah - Oh my god. I totally saw Mummenschanz live in NJ when I lived there. I think I was about...8? Maybe younger. I am so lame.
Hell, I saw Mummenschanz just a couple years ago. There's nothing lame about avant-garde Swiss mime.
