1. Happy birthday, Dad! I tried calling you a little while ago, but neither your home phone nor your cell phone picked up; will try you again tonight. Assuming you're reading this.

2. lays the smackdown on the Sports Guy and his fans, which is both interesting and a slap in the face, sorta. Still, though, as a Yankee fan without a wispy mustache (scroll down a bit), I would apparently have disappointed Bill had I bothered to wait in line to get him to autograph his new book about an event I'd rather forget ever happened in the first place. (Have any of you gotten/read it yet? It's my understanding that it's a "director's edition" compilation of all of his Red Sox columns from 2001-2004, with some DFW/Klosterman-esque footnoting and wryness.)

3. As for my stomach, it's 2 steps forward, 2 steps backward. I've never been so genuinely optimistic and so equally frustrated at the same time about the same thing in my entire life. Right now, at this very moment, I'm on the frustrated side of things.
