1. Kath is home with the puppies today. They were very happy to see us when we picked them up at the vet and were even happier when we got them back to the apartment. We weren't allowed to feed them until 10pm; when we did, they CHOWED DOWN, and then suddenly Lily got all skittish and jumpy. Her stitches look fine, but she's been acting all wierd. Lola's apparently been a bit more like her old self. I'm hopeful that this skittishness will pass over the next few days; in any event, they have a follow-up appointment on Tuesday.

2. I finished the final book in the His Dark Materials trilogy last night; very fun stuff. I would like to discuss it here in a non-spoiler-ish way, although I have no idea how many of you have actually read the books or not. Here's my thing about the ending, in as spoiler-free a context as I can make it - it felt unfinished. Considering how much the book talks about specific things that have to happen for such and such to occur, the actual end of the larger-scale conflict was pretty anticlimatic, and the Father Gomez side-story ended far too abruptly (and easily, really). What happens to Lyra and Will is indeed tragic, but it seems like what happens between the two of them overwhelms everything else that came before it.... I could go on and on and on, but the point is that I really enjoyed the books and have absolutely no idea how they will be filmed. Considering that they've already been staged, however, I'm sure it can be done.

Work just arrived. More in a bit.
