Miles Davis - The Cellar Door Sessions 1970

I had been thinking about it and thinking about it and finally I said fuck it, I'm buying it. As much as I wanted to own the actual CDs so that I could read the liner notes, it was on iTunes for about $30 less, and that was easier, so.... Money aside, this set is absolutely phenomenal. I listened to the first 2 hours on Saturday night over headphones and couldn't believe what I was hearing, over and over and over again. It's kinda funny, actually - the music is so funky and groovy and yet totally in outer space - there were parts that reminded me of Tortoise, and then parts that reminded me of Phish, and then there were parts that I'd just never heard anything like. I cannot recommend this set enough - it's astounding.
oh man.
I almost wish I hadn't heard about that. I've been collecting the "later" Miles box sets, and this one seems mandatory.

The good news is that it looks like the amazon.co.uk pre-order price actually beats amazon.com...

This sounds like one that I will bypass iTunes for the actual CDs. The past products have been so compelling, and the liner notes are a real education.
I competely agree. I bought this set last week and it's fucking insane!
I'm planning on getting the actual CDs once I get the money. I'm a long time Miles fan (especially of his weirder/electronic stuff in the 70s).
