1. Con Edison showed up; the short version is that it turns out that we do actually owe $1600, and even though that's totally fucking insane, there's nothing we can do about it. The only thing we can do, as it turns out, is to make sure the goddamned boiler works next winter before we touch the thermostat.
2. After the Con Ed guy left I watched the last half of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Aside from putting me in a pseudo-bummed-out mood, there was a tiny bit of incidental music near the end that I thought was interesting and I ran to get my acoustic guitar and began to strum it out. Within 5 minutes I had a really cool verse structure and all sorts of arrangement ideas began pouring into my head - the ideas were coming so quickly, in fact, that I started to get suspicious. I recorded a 40-second demo and then searched my iTunes library to confirm my hunch, and goddammit, my hunch was right. The brilliant song I was writing this afternoon is actually Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's "In This Home On Ice."
3. I'm a huge Terry Gilliam fan, but I'd stayed away from The Brothers Grimm. It's on pay-per-view, though, and there was nothing on TV tonight, so we bit the bullet and turned it on. And, goddammit, it sucks.
