music progress, and a plug for the girlfriend's play

I'm so tired this morning it's like I'm hungover. Which is funny, considering this morning's horoscope:

Today there's a highly charged energy filling the air, thanks to the day's planetary configuration. Suddenly, you could feel like starting a new physical fitness plan! You tend to be a couch potato. You're not always able to resist the call of the sofa on a Saturday afternoon. There's nothing wrong with relaxing and enjoying yourself. But hey, don't be afraid to get up and out once in a while! You could visit the gym or go for a long bike ride. Take advantage of your ambitious surge of energy - and be sure to stick with your new regimen.

Last night was productive. I've been going through this wierd "crisis" regarding the whole "one-man-band / looping-of-one-part" thing, because no matter how interesting one loop is, it's not really enough to structure a whole song around - well, at least with my limited equipment. Anyway, on Tuesday I came up with this really cool loop that became more difficult to duplicate once my equipment started fritzing out; also, when I tried singing over it, it got really boring after a while. So last night I re-configured my setup so I'd only be looping a drumbeat, which means that I could play more than one chord progression. I very quickly came upon 2 new parts to the loop, and so now there's a new song. The guitar/drum combo doesn't sound that bad, actually.

So now the mission is to fix up my setup so I can play a song with a looped drumbeat, and then, when it's time to jam, I can start looping "bass" and extraneous guitars, without too much of a dip in sound quality.

Still no real concrete lyrics, though. The gig is in exactly 3 weeks.

Tonight is Opening Night for the woman's show, "Six Characters Cometh." Very excited. I haven't seen her in a week. Which is weak. But even so... If you're in the neighborhood, check it out. It's at the Connelly Theatre, on East 4th between Avenue A and B; Thursday-Saturday at 8pm, and a matinee on Sunday. I think it runs into August - of course I don't have a postcard on me.

More later.
