I was screwing around with my guitar software, which gives me access to around 80 virtual amps and all sorts of other nonsense, and one of the special things it does is give you access to a "Tone Library" wherein you can dial up your favorite guitarist's tone.  I looked to see what the "Top 10" list was, and right there at the top of list was Eric Johnson's "Cliffs of Dover" tone.  And let me just say - goddammit, I was a fan back in the day.  I'm not afraid to admit that "Ah Via Musicom" blew my little 14-year-old face off for a long while.  And so here I am, almost 20 years later, listening to a Limewire'd copy of "My Desert Rose" and feeling like a happy little idiot.  Of all the guitar gods, there was something about EJ that was a bit different - he was way more melodic and - dare I say - tasteful about his shredding.

Anyway, I'm feeling very old right now.
