1. The "retail therapy" I mentioned in the previous entry was the HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox360 (...as well as a new, HDMI-equipped Xbox360). And some HD-DVDs to go along with it, because, well, that's what it's for. We got 4 of the new Kubrick releases (2001, Clockwork Orange, Shining, Eyes Wide Shut), A Scanner Darkly, and, on Kath's insistence, Army of Darkness - which we watched Friday evening.
I'd never seen the Evil Dead movies, or Army of Darkness, or the other early Raimi/Campbell movies; aside from his Spiderman cameos, my only real screentime with Bruce Campbell was in Bubba Ho-Tep, which I thought was pretty terrible. I didn't understand why he is a phenomenon, or why I should give a shit. Well, after Army of Darkness, consider me 100% sold. He is awesome, the movie is awesome, and while there are already 47 different DVD editions of the Evil Dead movies, I feel like getting them all. And then again, in HD. There are a zillion great quotable lines in Army of Darkness, but the one that cracked Kath and I up for a solid 5 minutes was really just in passing; Ash comes back from the cemetary with the Necronomicon, and people keep coming up to him while he's clearly exhausted, and he says "Yeah, yeah,"... "OK....", and then, suddenly, "Get the fuck out of my face." His delivery of that line is absolutely perfect, and we could not stop laughing.
(Oh, and as for the Kubrick? Well, we watched 2001 on Saturday, and it's absolutely stunning. The space stuff is incredible, as you might expect, but even the caveman stuff in the beginning is beautiful, too. Lots of interesting (albeit old) special features, too.)
2. Kath's parents were scheduled to come over on Saturday afternoon, and as it turns out, my mom and stepdad also came over, somewhat on the spur of the moment, and we all had a lovely afternoon. It was great to see my mom, after all the craziness she's been through, and hopefully she had as good a time as we did. Kath and I were just excited because we'd gone shopping the night before, and we went to get some champagne for mimosas, and the liquor store near our apartment always has these awesome tastings, and we ended up trying and buying a bottle of this dill-infused vodka, which made our Bloody Marys friggin' AMAZING.
3. Did a lot of music this weekend, too; not sure I can share any of it just yet, however. I will say this - I love being able to collaborate with my stepbrother, even if we're 3000 miles away, because it's been a long time coming.
