Last night's Home Opener went about as well as it possibly could; great weather, timely hitting, good starting pitching, Joba being electric (if a little erratic) in the 8th and Mariano being brilliant in the save.  I'm thrilled for Girardi, to get that first one out of the way - it's good for the whole team, really, to not have to spend the first few days pressing for that first win.

Chien-Ming Wang... it's strange.  He's won more games over the last 2 or 3 years than anybody in the majors, and yet when you watch him, it's hard to see how that's possible.  He never strikes anybody out, he's never overpowering... he just gets ground ball after ground ball, and sometimes they dink through the infield.  He never gets rattled, though; if someone gets on, chances are pretty good that the next batter will hit into a double play.

I will try to refrain from too much baseball talk in this blog - or maybe I'll filter it, I don't know.  I've been trying to keep my baseball obsession at a respectable volume.  Still, though, it was Opening Day!  A win against one of the best pitchers in the AL!  A win that followed the script (starter goes 7, Joba in the 8th, Mo in the 9th) perfectly!  A win for Joe Girardi!  The misery of last October is gone and forgotten; Opening Day heals all wounds.
