ipod war

(no subject)

The world is long overdue for a scrollwheel iPod war; my journal is long overdue for a meme.  It's too late in the day for an iPod war, though, and the one-word meme that's going around isn't doing anything for me.  So I'm ganking something from kottke.

5 Most Played Songs on your MP3 player of choice

(Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I should say that the top songs in this auto-generated playlist are songs I've written and recorded (and subsequently listened to over and over and over again, trying to find what went wrong).  So I'm omitting those.

I'm also omitting multiple songs from the same album.  As it turns out, I've listened to The Forms' s/t record on repeat at least 40 times, and in my iPod's list they are all bunched up together, so this "most-played" list wouldn't really make a lot of sense.  In that case, I'll simply put the first song that shows up.

And the thing I should have said first is that my iPod only dates from last summer; my previous iPod's results would most likely be vastly different (i.e., lots of New Pornographers and Death Cab.)  So these results are really only looking over the last 8 months of listening history.

Enough with the futzing:  on with the list.)

1.  Don Caballero, "Fire Back About Your New Baby's Sex"
2.  St. Vincent, "Now Now"
3.  The Forms, "Knowledge In Hand"
4.  The Most Serene Republic, "The Men Who Live Upstairs"
5.  French Kicks, "So Far We Are"
My list is as follows:

1. Damien Rice, "Volcano"
2. David Byrne, "Walk on the Water"
3. The Eels, "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues"
4. Laura Cantrell, "14th Street"
5. The Cure, "Mint Car"

I think at least three of these were on a mix CD I made for Kip when we first started going out, and which was such an awesome mix that I had the playlist on repeat on my ipod for a solid month. I haven't listened to anything quite so obsessively since, mostly because I've been listening to all of my songs in alphabetical order by title since November 2006. (I'm almost done - I'm on the "You" songs now.)
1. The Shins, "Sleeping Lessons", Wincing the Night Away
2. We Versus the Shark, "I Am a Fantastic Battle", Ep of Bees EP
3. Foo Fighters, "But Honestly", Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace
4. Low, "Dragonfly", Drums and Guns
5. Minutemen, "Fascist", Paranoid Time EP
