1.  Today's creepy 1970s ad comes to you via Boing Boing.  "Creepy" isn't the right word, actually; I think "totally fucked up" might be a more apt description.  IMed this to my brother, who IMed it to a friend, who replied:  "60% of the time, it works every time."

2.  Today's frightening weather photograph comes to you via Yahoo, who got it live on the scene at Mt. Doom.  For the record, that's a thunderstorm on top of an erupting volcano.

3.  After Saturday night's viewing of "Rattle and Hum", I felt compelled to acquire all the U2 albums that I didn't actually own.  My friend Steve had dubbed me copies of War, October and Boy, but I never had them on CD; and I never had All That You Can't Leave Behind, either.  Anyway.  We listened to U2 all day yesterday, and it was wonderful.  Remember when U2 was the greatest band in the world?  I do.  I was utterly obsessed with them for years, right up until the first time I listened to Zooropa; after that, my love for them kinda faded and died.  You know what would be awesome?  Nigel Godrich producing their next album.
I felt the same (first record was "Under a blood red sky", which I bought when it was NEW), though a bizarre turn of events has led me down the path of listening to "Zooropa" if I listen to them at all.
